Would you eat meat that had been grown in a lab?

Saw a report on the development of meat, specifically beef, being grown in a lab for human consumption. The scientists take a few cells via sample from the animal. This doesn't harm said animal. Then they use the genetic information to grow the meat product.

They claim it's healthier. Free from antibiotics and other harmful things but I'm not sure. The process and concept is fascinating for sure but my mind struggles to trust it. 🤔

Why would I eat a cow that lived in a lab when I can eat a cow that ate grass and enjoyed the sunshine like cows are meant to do!

@hippyjoe1955 the "cow" in the lab isn't a whole cow. Just a small part. Burger...steak etc Pro is it doesn't need to be slaughtered. Con is it was "grown" in a lab. 🤷‍♀️

@HausOfLuna I repeat my question. Why would I eat cow that was grown in a lab when I can eat cow that was raised in the pasture?
HausOfLuna · F
@hippyjoe1955 because if it gets too cost effective to "grow" meat as opposed to rear it. Farming livestock might become a thing of the past or a luxury. They are calling this lab meat "clean meat". It, according to the scientists etc, is more environmentally friendly. Ceases the epic grand scale slaughter of animals. They are racing to bring this to market and are developing meat and fish products. For me it is both fascinating and freaky.

@HausOfLuna Can't get much less expensive than raising a cow on the grass that grows naturally. Cows are a great help to the grass in return.

@hippyjoe1955 yes they are. Now the Greenies are griping because cows consume water. They also pee, and it gets filtered down to the ground and through it goes back to nature doesn’t it?

@cherokeepatti Water is 100% recycled. The earth is a closed loop ecosystem that is billions of years old. That says something about the Designer of said system. WOW!!!!

@hippyjoe1955 yes it does

@hippyjoe1955 who/what are you referring to as "Designer"?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@HausOfLuna If there is design there must be a designer. You figure it out.
HausOfLuna · F
@hippyjoe1955 I'm trying to by asking what/who you refer to as "Designer".

It's not a trick question. I've read the other thread but it veered off too far for me to catch up. Had me researching multiverse theory and stuff that boggled my mind.

It's a fascinating possibility. But I wonder why the original design could not have been left to "run" or adapt aka evolve?

Do you mean just our universe is designed? Or the whole of space? Is there anything outside our universe?

When you say Designer it makes me think of Prometheous movie. That's why I ask your definition of Designer.

Maybe I should start another post for this 😕

@HausOfLuna The universe shows all the indications of being designed and not just some weird accident that caused stars and planets and light and dark and wet and dry and life and non life. What designer could you imagine it to be? Even Hoyle the great atheist mused that there seems to be a Great Intelligence behind the formation of the universe simply because of the laws of physics.

@hippyjoe1955 I need to learn a lot more about this concept. At the moment I have more questions than opinions. 🤔
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@HausOfLuna Good for you. There is a lot of very recent research that is indicating in ever stronger terms the design of life and how it interacts with earth, the sun and the universe as a whole. The degree and complexity of both form and function rule out any 'accidental' genesis. We can't even get all the chemicals into the right place at the right time in the right proportion and we have a design in mind yet there are those among us who claim it is merely and accident of time and space.
