I think convenience/speed, kids, and variety.
McDonald's true strength is delivering a CONSISTENT product at every store. If Burger King had figured out how to do that, I think Wendy's would not have had the same opening (though the latter's salad bar was a selling point when they were really springing up everywhere, years ago).
A good BK sandwich beats the McDonald's one, hands down, IMO. The problem is that you don't know when you are getting the good one, or an overcooked one, a colder one, etc.
