Most here in California and in Texas when I was growing up brought out chips and 1 salsa. A few here nothing w/o $. Your spread is a feast in comparison. Point me in the right direction next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

sierralover: Some of the restaurants will even bring small bowls of pickled veggies, there are few specialty sauces they might charge for though...they keep the refills coming on the sauces & chips for long as it takes them to get your meal out.

I think it's customary at the real Mexican restaurants to serve chips and salsa and things 😍😍mmmm❤️❤️❤️❤️

but do they charge a separate price for the chips & dips?

I don't eat in restaurants, but it reminds me of when I first moved out west. My girlfriend sang in a Mexican restaurant and the first time I went in there I was brought a basket of tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa. I dipped a chip and couldn't understand why anyone would eat that, it burned my mouth so bad I had drink a whole glass of water. A couple months later, I was scooping up as much salsa as I could get onto a chip!

I usually take the Queso dip and add a couple of spoons of the red hot salsa to it and mix it up, makes a tasty cheese dip. It is easy to get hooked on.
yes they do that here. NC
It's common practice at Mexican restaurant. Chips are complimentary. I think El Torito does that too, but their food is more hybrid.

No such animal here.

You think they are free but nothing is so the cost either goes on the food or on cutting quality elsewhere

Nice if they do. I don't eat Mexican food. If found it too highly flavoured and quite spicy.

Some don't anymore. And I want to know why... ;)

There are a lot of Mexican family-owned restaurants in Oklahoma and they are very competitive...if one starts charging extra for the chips & salsa the customers can always find a restaurant that doesn't charge.

yea its pretty common... Almost everywhere in L.A. even the take out. Lol

We don't get queso but most of our restaurants in Wisconsin get chips and a variety of salsa.
