What is it with people these days drinking “ beer cold ? “

DragonFruit · 61-69, M
In the U.S. (unlike in the U.K.), beer is usually drunk cold....and not just in recent years. It was commonplace here in the U.S. to have cold beer as long as I’ve been around, which is over 60 years.

@DragonFruit come off it USA beer is not technically beer it’s a weak virgin toxic attempt at trying to make beer lol

@Wishingwellguy Why are people from the UK always attacking the USA?🤔
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@Wishingwellguy There’s a lot of U.S. craft beer which stands up well compared to good European beers (and not all European beers are that great either).

Cold or cool? If beer is chilled too much you can't taste it properly, but obviously it needs to be cool to avoid it flattening rapidly in the glass.

I can't comment on the USA as I've never been there, but in the UK, chilled beer came in with the rise in low-quality bulk bitter and lager of rather bland flavours anyway. The conglomerate, big-name brewers made selling it refrigerated a selling-point, pushing it as somehow "modern" and "fashionable". Think of the Heineken fountain designed to condense the air's moisture on its surface to show how cold it is.

I think refrigerated beer is also a big thing in Australia, reflecting the aridity of much of the country.

In the end it's all a matter of personal taste, but I go for well-kept, cool, flavour-full cask-conditioned bitters - aka "real ales". (Not "craft beers", as I am neither an American nor American resident!)

I am lucky in that the only pub still open close to home, is a thriving free-house that sells a variety of cask ales, three on a time normally, as well the usual keg bitter, lager, stout and cider. Good food too And in easy walking distance of home!
