Would you stop eating meat if your doing so would destroy the planet?

The growing popularity of a Western diet, which contains high levels of meat and dairy, means an area 1.5 times the size of the European Union would be saved if global consumption of animal products was reduced to meet nutritional requirements, according to the WWF.

The new report, Appetite for Destruction, launched at the Extinction and Livestock Conference, says the consumption of animal products is leading to a vast and increasing amount of land being used for crops.

This is threatening areas including the Amazon, Congo Basin and the Himalayas, where water and land resources are already under significant pressure, the report warned.

Excessive animal product consumption is responsible for 60 per cent of all biodiversity loss, according to WWF, with the UK food industry alone directly linked to the extinction of an estimated 33 species.

“The world is consuming more animal protein than it needs and this is having a devastating effect on wildlife,” Duncan Williamson, WWF food policy manager said in a statement.

I used to be a vegan until the past year. It affected my health badly.

I wouldn't mind going back to my old diet in the future if necessary and it poses no health risks.

With the situation now, the solution is moderate consumption on a global scale. Chicken, turkey, lamp consumption instead of beef..

Affording and managing a balanced vegan diet is nothing easy. And it doesn't work for everyone.

I don't think it will happen or be adopted even by those with body needs that do fit a vegan/vegetarian diet

@sogdianrock

Then apparently it works for your body
For me it lead to a vitamin deficiency and autoimmune disorders. And that was linked to my heart condition later on. My health became better with a diet change.

I also had more difficulty gaining muscle weight before. It took me two years to finally weight 50kg.

I was a vegan since 6 years old. It was an emotional decision, later on a conviction that came from feeling responsibile towards the environment.

Currently I am not eating beef because it is one the the meat products that not only takes up the most land but also produces the most C02s
Tracos · 51-55, M
at this moment I'm effectively a weekday vegetarian... only eating meat in the weekend... and then only good quality meat....

stopping meat al together.... hmm... but reducing by by about 70% not so bad at all

Reduce the human population. This is the far more sensible solution. Enough with destroying our quality of life to make room for even more people!

@sogdianrock Well, there are health issues linked with eating human flesh and organs, so I'll stick to the birth control and eating those delicious pigs and chickens etc, lol

I would advocate for reducing certain meat eating practices which would solve the problem.

HI Paladin
I am sorry but I cannot discern what it is you are intending to convey.
Do you means Yes keep eating meat and destroy the planet or no stop eating meat and save the planet?
Best wishes

hi Honeypaws
I am partial to roast parsnips myself. I don't care if the planet is ruined I will never give up hunting down my wild parsnips in whichever supermarket they hide and gutting them myself and roasting them in my oven!
Best wishes

I love parsnips too. They are yummy roasted. I like them in homemade pumpkin and parsnip soup too! @sogdianrock

hi Honeypaws
Dangerous when cornered though - spikes little teeth on a wild parsnip! I use my AK47 with a silencer to mow them down. (Sorry Las Vegas bitterness coming out there)

I rarely eat red meat, so for me it would not be so much of a sacrifice. They would, however, have to pry the plate of grilled shrimp or box of fish and chips from my cold, dead hands. 🤔

hi bijouxbroussard
no need to do a Charlton Heston!
