@CaptainCanadia often my son in law will ask me to go out to eat with them ,
He has a good job and they eat out a lot
He is one who likes things just so so ,so when a cook /chief, messes up his food he is not shy about asking to speak to him (when everything is right he is a generous tipper )So they make an effort
So some places they know him now ,and the cook will come to the table and ask was everything prepared to our liking (he is not the cook he thinks he is either )
It makes me proud when my girls will say together almost
It was good ,but Dad could have done it better
My middle daughter brings her new man home so he can ask me to marry my her ,
He starts bragging how he won her heart with a "T"bone steak
He has it cut for her ,nice and thick ,brings over his grill ,(Yea he was trying to impress )He went all out for it to be special ,so she lets him think its the best ,but my kids won't lie to me .
So I say well baby was it as good as Dads ? she gets a look on her face and says
"Sorry babe " but maybe Dad can teach you how to prepare one LOL
I used to have to fool my Dad ,he had to believe it was Mom who slaved over a stove cooking for him all day ,,it was me
Most meals I have hours into it ,and lots of prep stuff
soaking meats in salt water ,marinate over night ,I use a pressure cooker a lot .
get it falling off the bone ,and then get it golden in the oven
Homemade rubs and sauces
but I had good teachers ,
My Grandma and MOM ,both excellent cooks but Grandma was disabled ,so she let me help
to this day I can't make steak as good as Moms
Pan ,broiler ,grill ,,noting I do compares to Moms ,but I keep trying

@RippinKlouds I can do some Chinese cooking. It's such a huge, varied cuisine. Made soup dumplings a couple years ago which was an ungodly amount of work.
