Do not panic! The stock market is for long term investment!

This chaos will subside eventually. Might not be this year, or the next. People will not put up with long term financial torture, they will vote differently in 2-4 years if this keeps up. If you sell now, you lock your losses in forever!

There is no such thing as "investing" in the stock market! How can you invest in something that doesn't actually exist since nothing tangible exists that makes up the stock market?

What we do is 'trade' in the stock market but we don't 'invest' in it. The stock market is a 'shell game' just as mutual funds are pyramid schemes.

Since the basis of a mutual fund is the stock market but a mutual fund's value bears little relationship to the stock market value itself, then there is no such thing as 'investing' in mutual funds either, though that is not how mutual funds are marketed.

If your pension plan is being traded daily in the stock market, you are playing Russian roulette with your pension plan. True pension plans are NEVER tied to the stock market OR to mutual funds, but instead are comprised of 'guaranteed investments' such as GIC's.

@swirlie Call it what you want, it’s what our economy relies on. The point is that people’s livelihoods are reliant on the stock market, and in the long term, you can make money.

It's not what I want to call it, the stock market is what it is and you don't recognize that fact. If people's livelihoods are reliant on the stock market, it's because people have voluntarily made themselves reliant on the stock market. Any mechanism that is used to make money that requires time over the long term for money to eventually come into fruition, is a called a 'slot machine' found in a casino.

To "invest" as you put it, in the stock market as a means of making money is no different than "investing" on the odds that you'll eventually win big money from a slot machine at a gambling casino. The stock market and a gambling casino are one in the same in principle.
