Thank goodness for US health insurance. Only have to pay $400 a paycheck, hit that $2,000 deductible,

pay for the prescription, and then hopefully with a little luck you can get a specialist appointment within 6 months. God Bless America!

Here's what I suspect: while some people get rich suing the industry left and right, fewer and fewer people are going into the profession. But I've also heard that there's a bottleneck at the application level and the cost to become a Doctor is unaffordable. I've also heard an ugly rumor that PCP are trained to basically believe in prescription based treatments more than or over wholeistic medical care. Lots of issues in medical care.

@Mindful The bottleneck is because training a doctor is insanely expensive- if you can get in to medical school, you can (after studying, of course) pass the board exams. The barrier to becoming a lawyer is the bar exam, because most of what a lawyer needs are books and lectures (and many of those books are in the public domain, even); a prospective doctor is facing a VERY different set of lessons.

Then you've got lawsuits filed left and right, and the judgements handed out driving up the cost of malpractice insurance, so in some places, it's hard to find a given specialist since they've all switched or moved. Pretty much every level of the costs are just nuts.

You think THAT'S depressing? Consider this: it's still the best option we've got.

I celebrated today when I saw how close I was to the catastrophic maximum co-pay was reached.

It's making us built Ford Tough. Broke your leg? Rub some dirt on it. Had a heart attack? Wait is that just your first one? Please, take a couple deep breaths and finish your country fried steak.

2000 is my cap on out of pocket also. 1 hospital admission meets the maximum
Mindful · 56-60, F
@MarineBob you can only go to the hospital once per year or?
MarineBob · 61-69, M
@Mindful once covers the yearly out of pocket
