I've heard that young drivers are very expensive to insure in the UK. Isn't it sometimes cheaper for the parent to insure themselves to drive the car and add the younger driver as an additional named driver?

Last time I had car insurance in the UK was 1984 so I'm probably way out of date. It's slightly different in Norway (in theory I think), we insure the car itself and anyone can drive it with the owner's permission. The insurance company gives a discount if you restrict it to drivers over 23 years old.

@Havesomefun2 Ouch. I pay less than 1000 GBP per year to insure my Model S in Norway for any driver 23 or over.
