Okay, it IS partly sour grapes but $2.04 billion dollars?

honestly I'm feeling just a little sorry for the person(s) that bought the winning ticket.

when it was $1.9 billion you'd take home something on the order of 900 million and some change

can you imagine how complex their life is about to become?
how many people will come with hat in hand asking for a portion.
not just worthy charities but scammers.
people will be your "friend" but you won't ever be sure of their motives.
family you hate will suddenly love you

I'm actually happy not to have my life complicated like that.
Honestly, I don't think that people consider just how much having a few million can complicate your life - never mind a few billion.

Then there's the whole going from Joe Bloggs to Bill Gates overnight... nothing can really prepare you for that.

@HootyTheNightOwl oh you'd show up on transaction reports sure enough

I'd find plenty of charities to give away to - and I'd follow the advice I heard once on tv when family ask for money

"how much do you want? one time shot? never ask again"

it would be worth it not to hear from them again :)

at my age I doubt there would be any more work involved. maybe traveling a little here and there - but to out of the way and backwoods places.

set up a trust for my daughter so that even inflation wouldn't bother her.

my biggest fear is that I would get greedy/stingy and jaded from all the money
@Pretzel Does the one and only approach really work, though???

Lol, I know some people who worked into their 70's - so I wasn't about to judge based on your age if you might want to keep some earnings flowing or not... plus that sort of money places you in a position where you can hire all the work out and just collect your profits.

The thing with charities is that they tend to add you to the "suckers" list once you start donating and they come back for more. You may be better off using the money to facilitate changes to your local area that would benefit the community as a whole.

@HootyTheNightOwl I suspect my donations would be on a cashier's check dropped off at the office with a warning that there would never be another dime if my name (not on the check) were disclosed or I was solicited.

changes in the community sound good - but I suspect the same thing would happen - only people would be more like to know the source of the funds.

thankfully - my life won't be that complicated :)

They will be sued by everyone. Would need to set up a corporation and put it into stock to protect yourself.

@Tastyfrzz you would need a bookkeeper and an accountant to keep track of the bookkeeper. And a lawyer to set up your trust. And a pr person to say no to all requests. And a secretary. And a bodyguard team

It ain't easy being rich
If I won that much money, I'd give some away or buy houses for my family and friends or something.
