Actually, the two go hand in hand. To be good at saving, you need to be good at controlling your spending and getting quality for what you spend rather than impetuous crap and things that are cheap. No one can afford "cheap" or "free" by the time diversion marketing is stripped away.
Good thing I'm a saver....cuz my spouse is a spender....
