What do you think?

401k's ... stay with me now...

You don't have to say if you do or don't have one, we can keep it super ambiguous.

BUT, would you put money into a 401k? That you can't touch until you are 65?

For me, I just can't imagine having money....but can't touch it.

Dying at 64 or younger these days (especially in my family) is seemingly really common lately.

If I had even 10k or more in a 401k and died before I could touch it.... granted I'd be dead, but I'd be pissed.

I don't have kids or grandkids or anyone I would want to leave it to.

My work somewhat "matches" the contribution, which is what makes it SO tempting. But again, I can't withdraw it until I'm 65.

Dad was 49, mom was 68, grandma was 65, grandpa was 60 ish, I think. Never even met him. Died before I was born. My dads dad also ironically died at 49.

The odds aren't really in my favor here.

What would you do if you were me? What would you do as you?

I have since I was 23 because work matched and I neved noticed it not coming in my check.
My mom had one, she passed when she was 55 before she could retire so her 401k went to our dad and he got to draw his pension and her 401.

I doubt I'll be able to work much past 67 if I live that long, and know I'll need it.
