Does anyone actually follow the 50/30/20 budgeting plan?

I've tried, but the 20% savings is a killer! Imagine just a $4,000 monthly net income and trying to save $800 of it every month. Really?

$4k a month? You must have waited to 70 to collect social security.

@Tastyfrzz Nope, I retired early. I had my retirement funding and health care plan/costs set in stone, and the $4k figure was just a for instance figure.

@Ontheroad On the verge of retirement of some form myself. Savings, 401k, SSI and a small pension from a medical company should allow me to buy a gallon of milk. Everything is paid for but maintainance, insurance, taxes, gas, electricity, water, phone and internet will add up to a pretty penny. Thank goodness I don’t have any expensive vices. Downsizing will be crucial but painful. Lots of tradeoffs will need to be weighed. Living outstate is cheaper but its too inconvenient once one gets a few years older. I know a lot of folks who have done it but now think they made the wrong decision. It comes down to how healthy you are and how long your brain keeps functioning.
