More stability with index funds. More growth/risk with mutual funds. Something to consider though, which matters to some, is what companies your money is supporting.

@chelseamonroe3 Smart. If I could offer any advice to young people it would be to start putting just a little bit in to the markets. Doesn't have to be a ton of money at first but it can definitely add up over time. But if you've got a little set aside that you can afford to lose (which is a good jumping off point for any investment) you may want to consider Crypto too. It's very volatile, sometimes 20% swings a day (although it's calmed down lately) and has a real potential for big growth. Good luck.

@Ynotisay I would like to put in $1000 and make small payments every month for a couple of years. Is that ok kind sir? I will have to research cryptocurrency

@chelseamonroe3 I think that's a wise way of going about it. A little bit each month will add up very quickly. You won't get rich overnight but having a safety net? Super important. It's a good strategy. I might suggest investing most where it's a little safer and then a little bit in something that might be riskier but has the potential for greater return. Good luck!
