BJJ Guys...How would you handle this situation.

You leave a BJJ Gym that you have been going to for about 7 years.
You are a Brown Belt
Your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school is a franchise and it appears that you received your promotions based on attendance.

You walk into the BJJ gym where I am at and you see the lower belts that outperform you.

What do you do?

BACKSTORY: We had a Brown Belt recently join our gym
He walked up to the head instructor and said "I do not want you to think less of me as a Brown Belt but I do not think I am up to the level of Brown Belts that are in here".

He handed over his belt to my coach and asked if he could wear his purple belt and asked coach to return it to him when he earns it.

I was speaking to him and he said he did not want the rest of us to think he sucks as a brown belt.

I explained to him that you are not going to be looked upon in a negative light, but instead are a product of your environment that we have an opportunity to build up in a more competitive training environment.
