Are you a parent or a coach?
I have been in Jiu Jitsu for a very long time.
I have 2 boys that are also heavily involved in Jiu Jitsu.
I got asked by a parent how I deal with coaches for my own kids!
The answer is simple I am their dad, I sit on the side and let my kids be themselves in their chosen sports.
I let their coaches coach them. I do not intervene even when their coaches look at me for approval.
You are the coach, bench my kid if they are not putting fourth effort. displine them if they are not abiding to your rules. Put them where they deserve to be, not where they want to be.
When my kids come in and complain we have honest conversations that 99% time do not go in their favor! Work harder, keep your head down and do work, ask questions, know the standards, take ownership. These are just some of the things we talk about.
My job as their parent is simple. make sure they get to school and practice, have all the equipment they need, be their biggest fan, help pick them up when they fail!
I will only intervene if they are disrespected.
Parents let your kids be pushed, let them know what hard work is.
Let them fail as it is all part of the process.
Stop making it about always winning.
Let them understand the process that is needed to be successful.
