It still strikes me as weird that in some places schools start in August.

For me August is THE holiday month. I don't care about what happens on any other month, but I would feel like I'm in parallel universe if I saw kids going to school in AUGUST.

My kid goes to a STEM charter that started a few weeks ago and they go until mid June. All her neighborhood friends go to other schools and haven't started yet.
It's nice with this schedule because they don't lose as much of their academic skills over the summer break and then they get more days off throughout the year.
