It still strikes me as weird that in some places schools start in August.

For me August is THE holiday month. I don't care about what happens on any other month, but I would feel like I'm in parallel universe if I saw kids going to school in AUGUST.

Here they start in the last week of August so they get familiar with the classes, teachers and facility. The teaching doesn’t start till after the Labour Day long weekend.

@Quimliqer so they get like a tour and seminars about their school and classes? Now that's even weirder than I imagined.
Here schools typically start around the 10th of September.

@HannibalAteMeOut Not really seminars, just get usedp to the routine.
They don’t get out of school until the end of June so their summer is short.
