Faulker--Intruder in the Dust is very accessible, but something akin to
Harper Lee's first book, To Kill a Mockingbird either of which you might have read in high school.
Knowles--A Separate Peace, again, you might have read it in high school.
Poe--any short story, some poems
Shakespeare--Esp. the Tragedies, Sonnets
Bram Stoker--Dracula, written in the way that the first novels were.
Any sci-fi short story of Isaac Asimov, or his Foundation series.
Theodore Sturgeon--any of his IMMENSE library of very original short stories.
Jonathan Swift--A Modest Proposal...
Get a good collection of poetry and see what you like, then mine the veins which speak to you; e.g.,
Tennyson--Ulysses
Frost
Robert Service
Eugene Field
Do the same with short stories.
