Older ones amongst us.

I have noticed that people seem to be far more forgiving if an older (50+) adult has the need for the toilet, or have possibly had an accident. I have often visibly wet myself, and it was not obvious that I had messed myself.
I do that slow walk partly holding my bottom and have been asked if I was alright. I simply answer ‘I’ve had an accident’.
Has any one else received sympathy from strangers in these situations?
