You described it well thelonious: heaven and hell!
From 12 to 24 hours you feel invincible, until 30 is substainable then the more time passes the more you feel weak. And the feeling is not referred to your sphincter but to your whole body. Every activity becomes tiresome until you come to a state when you're just able to lay on bed and hold it. If you have nothing to do it can go on for hours. Unfortunately a major spasm will take it all to an end soon or late

When I was littler I was kicked in the groin severely and couldn't pee correctly for what looking back on felt like nearly an entire week, then one day I was just having a bath and it all came out

I think the longest i did was like 23 hours and I had to pee so bad
and i was trying to hold it longer but i couldn't sit still and it didn't
matter if I physically held myself. I had to go really bad and it was
ready to come. i stood up and that was the worse for me and i felt
like i was gonna just explode and some pee started to come out and
i sat back down and it still tryed to come out. crossing my legs I
pressed my butt against the chair bouncing my knees and legs up
and down. i knew it was about to be over. i didn't think i could hold it
for another second and it just started coming and i couldnt stop it and
i ran to the bathroom and jumped into the bathtub

My record was ALMOST 42 hours. It was heaven & hell at the same time! I felt my bladder could really burst if I kept holding, but I didn't let a single drop escape until my uretral sphincter gave up.
