I guess it was a compliment.

Since I returned to work on the as needed basis, I have been needed regularly since the beginning of July. I got called in with little notice today because of a schedule change. It was just me and a summer help trainee. Several locations report to the district manager (female). She reports to a regional supervisor (male).

Shortly after opening, our manager calls to let us know the Regional is making spot checks in the area. The notice came about 10 minutes before his arrival as I was with customers. Despite the heads up, no time to prepare. I did not have my normal time to get ready today and my hair was clipped back into a ponytail fully exposing my temple to cheek tattoo.

He was very nice as he checked the condition of our area, asked some questions about protocol and checked our filing and records systems.

Later in the day our manager called and asked, "Want to know how you guys did?" She has a little snicker in her voice. The message he sent to our manager indicated he spoke with the girl with the gold teeth, face tattoo and nose rings. (I am healing a fresh 14 GA septum with a curved horseshoe). She told me that he was impressed with cleanliness, record keeping and your knowledge of procedures. His concluding remarks were that he was happy our business is progressive, targeted to style, and driven by current trends which allows someone with your appearance to be appropriate.

She was pleased with the outcome, but told the Regional that "girl" is over fifty, semi-retired and has been with this company in various capacities for over twenty years.

As we laughed about it all, I thought to myself, I guess he never looked down because I completely never thought to put on shoes as he approached. Whatever, I've got to be me.
THAT is great!
