@SW-User Plenty of us do, but society frowns on our wearing them.
SW-User
@joe438 I'm sorry about that.

@SW-User thanks! I always thought it was unfair that the girls got to wear swirly clothes made of fun fabrics and the boys got scratchy corduroy.

People often say that but I'm not sure it is really true everywhere now. At least where I live and where I have travelled in the last few years.

I wear skirts or dresses all the time whenever I am away from home and no one seems to be in the slightest concerned. I have gone through customs, security, passport control in eight countries this year, checked in to hotels, eaten in caf茅s and restaurants, had a drink or two in pubs, done a lot of sight seeing all over England, all without any problems at all. If people are frowning then they aren't doing it when I am looking.

I'm not passable, anyone seeing my face would be quite sure I am not a genetic woman I think but if I get a negative comment it is because of my bare feet. Otherwise the only times anyone has spoken directly to me regarding the way I look have been to compliment me.

I think that believing that people will disapprove is actually a stronger disincentive than any actual disapproval.

@ninalanyon I鈥檓 delighted the world is coming around. As a graying man in his 60s I鈥檓 beyond a point where I鈥檇 want to be a pioneer. If I was younger I鈥檇 consider being bolder, shave my legs and rock a dress.

@joe438 I am also a greying main in his sixties! It's never too late to rock the dress
Me in dresses this summer:
Paignton, Devon:

Stray's caf茅, Newark, Nottinghamshire

Keith's Caf茅, Cirencester

A busy street in Brighton

@ninalanyon perhaps Norway is more accommodating? The Boston suburb where I live would not be as accepting. The city proper might, but not here.

You do carry those dresses well.

@joe438 All the pictures in the previous response were taken in England. The one before that by the sculpture is in Norway. I'm not claiming that no one ever has any trouble, just that it seems less likely than people seem to believe, it is certainly less than I believed myself. But of course I make a point of not visiting places that have a reputation for bad behaviour of any kind, but then I wouldn't visit such places dressed male either.

And, thank you for the compliment!
