I Like to Wear Skirts

This was a news headline in our local newspaper and all the news channels.
Female volunteer turned away from Festival of Trees for wearing pants instead of dress, skirt.
The girl said, "I thought it was extremely sexist to be honest. I think it's just a way of enforcing really strict stereotypes on genders and these really aren't reasonable rules. Women wearing pants has been a really prominent way that we have shown that we are equal to men. We can do the same work as men and we deserve the same rights as men.”
This prompts me to think of three things: 1) it's about time women got their comeuppance for wearing pants, 2) I'll bet they'd turn me away if I showed up in a skirt(which I would gladly do), and 3) I should be allowed to wear a skirt because men can do the same work as women and deserve the same rights as women.

I think it's missed here and in the comments that the bias is revealed not only in her being turned away but in the fact that any sort of news coverage was given. Imagine the news vans showing up when Vanessa described being run out of Kohls by rude salespeople. Right, you can't, because it wouldn't happen.
