I want to buy a pair of shorts for walking late at night but nothing in the men section can i wear girls shorts?

I have never wore girl clothes before. i want something short but not too short

longer then these

but shorter then these

Wear what ever shorts you are comfortable with. It is no ones business but yours. I am in shorts all the time since retiring and understand perfectly.
