I Like Short Shorts

Though my avatar is not me, the shorts the chap is wearing is virtually identical to my short denim shorts.

this is one of my favourite schoolboy pix, a handsome boy in very short shorts, probably a grammar schoolboy in the 80,s.i would love to see this style of uniform re-introduced for all schoolboys up to at least teenage, i,m sure it would assist in discipline, as short trousered boys are more compliant, i know i was, when i was put back into short trousers as a 13 yr old for getting into trouble with the police, it certainly calmed me down, as i was kept in shorts for school and home till i was 14 and a half!

@bobgreen Unfortunately I did not wear shorts like that to school after the age of 11. However at home was a different story. Whenever I needed to look smart I wore very neat properly short grey flannel shorts, shirt, blazer, tie, long grey socks and polished black shoes. I might add this was entirely voluntary. The only restrictions for occasions requiring neat clothing was that I had to look smart.

At home I did not wear a single pair of long trousers until I was seventeen. Even then it was rare. I still far prefer to wear shorts to this day. Now in my late fifties.

@JulesJohnson Well when I grew up I wore both styles of shorts. As I insisted on wearing shorts my mother said well for posh does, going out for meals etc I want you to look smart so you can wear neat grey flannel school shorts. So I did. It was no problem for me, I wore grey shorts, white shirt and sometimes a tie and a jacket worn with long grey or white socks and start rite sandals or black lace up shoes. People used to think I was very smart.

@JulesJohnson I must admit that my grey shorts did look good on me. They were always nicely pressed and fitted perfectly and were the correct length. It was the 1970's so they had an inside leg of no more than an inch.

I was also lucky in that I was athletic so had good looking legs or so I was told and smart grey shorts really showed them off.

p.s I am now 58 and still look fine in shorts (I run and practice a lot of Yoga etc)

I used to wear shorts like that for school, and others like them for play. It was easier to wash legs than clothes then, so short shorts made sense from my mother’s point of view.
