I Like Short Shorts
Today I am doing my morning 4:30 a.m. run with my new 2XU shorts (3" inseams). It was quite cold this morning (8C / 46F, in terms of where I am living) and it rained (but not heavily, just a few mm). I would like to experience the chilling resulted from low temperature, rain, and wind. Unfortunately the wind was not that strong today (just about 13 kph / 8 mph).
To prepare to the cold environment, I wore nothing and was only covered by a summer blanket when I slept yesterday night (I have no heater at home). Besides, I had a quick cold water shower to allow myself to get used to the temperature. It was chilling and I was shaking, of course.
I wore the new shorts, a racerback tank, socks and trainers. Originally I decided to do a 16K run, which would be quite torturous for me. However, a few km down, I did not feel quite like running (depressed?) that long and I made an earlier turn and did a 10K instead.
I did not see many people around, and those I have seen were paying no special attention to me, although they were all in long-sleeved sweaters and sports trousers, and many were wearing coats. However, maybe my thighs were used to be bare (I wore shorts at home all years even when the outside temperature was about 4C - note: no heater and the temperature would not be much above that even when I close most windows) although my legs felt like ice. It was the upper body that felt the cold wind and rain, and my hands were very cold. I liked that experience a lot as I always wish to experience the feeling of being chilled.
Since I did not do well in today's run (very low speed, at 8 kph / 5 mph, much like walking) and I was not persistent enough (I did 10 K instead of 16 K decided beforehand), a punitive PE lesson will be in place for me tomorrow, when the temperature will be higher (15 C / 59 F) yet the rain will be heavier. If you wish, you can provide me a list of punitive PE tasks that I need to work on tomorrow.
