I never wear butt-ugly platform shoes, or (almost never) wear shoes with high heels

I like to stay close to the ground where the real action happens.

High heel shoes hurt my ankles, and platform shoes are just plain yuk.

I fully understand. My wife no longer wears high heels or the heeled boots she used to wear in the Fall /winter. She says they simply hurt her feet/ankles too much. While I found them very sexy, I fully understand and have not asked her to wear them ! Her comfort is more important than my attraction to them.
