At school, until age 12, we weren't allowed to wear outdoor shoes and boots. They had to come off in the cloakroom and we changed into plimsolls.
Our mums had to make us a "slipper bag" This was a home made bag with a draw string. In this we kept our "slippers" These weren't house slippers but black plimsolls.
Anyone forgetting their plimsolls were punished my being made to go bare foot all day.
