I never made Gold Jewellery [I Love Gold Jewellery]

I am Third Year Ceramics and Jewellery. We work with pewter and copper which the college provides but we have to buy other metals. I buy silver and it's amazing how much I know about silver now. I have never bought gold. The prices of silver are enough to put anyone off but I am pretty determined. Well, determined, not pretty.

Silver is a beautiful material.
Is it alloyed with something else?

@helenS Yes. Pure silver is too soft to make jewellery. I use Britannia silver to make the body of the brooch. It's really an alloy with 5% copper to harden it. I use Sterling silver for the findings. It's quite pure but still 2.5% copper. I mean the hooks. I use steel to make the pins.
