Why do so few women wear stockings these days? Are they uncomfortable?

Cost and ease, mostly. Pantyhose are much cheaper and easier to wear and deal with throughout the day. And... No bumps or tugging at things to look smooth and proper. Plus, ease of washing and care... one item vice many.
