Seems more common in Europe and South America.

As a 14 year old, in the U.S., i used to teach 3-5 year olds how to swim at a local rec center. Then Lifeguarded a couple years later. Thong bikinis were pretty common. On 3-5 year olds...-_- Like, come on parents. And, they would fall off, leaving me awkwardly and desperately asking a female instructor to please God help me. Pretty uncomfortable. Of course, the boys would walk out of the bathroom with their trunks falling off. -_- But still. Bikinis? On a 3 year old? Come on parents.

@IrretrievableObito: 3-5? Wow. Never seen that nor did I know they sell them. (I work in beachside fashion shop) My answer is probably 13-14. It is the accepted fashion now.

Many Iranian girls wear sexy clothes when they leave Iran even for a visit. But they have to wear abaya when they go back to Iran, or their cultural clothes with the head scarf.
After I had seen that girl on the beach, I found out that she used to work as a prostitute in Dubai. And she was still 17 only!
