My children鈥檚 elementary school had a dress code because they didn鈥檛 have to wear uniforms until grade 9. They could have some holes in their pants, but it had to be like near the knee area and they couldn鈥檛 wear any shorts or skirts that were higher than their middle finger when their arm is stretched down their leg (if that makes sense). And all straps on tops must be 2 inches wide
