clothes are either loose on me or tight!!

why can i not find garments that fit me just right? - like t shirts for instance, a size xl is too tight on me but a size 2xl is quite loose fitting on me as is 3xl, but i still wear sizes 2xl and 3 xl t shirts and shirts, but tuck the shirts in my pants, is this ok?
