What happened to the days when men wore suits as casual wear men in the 1950’s men in that era used to dress up in suits as every day apparel?

I'd recently posted in a fan moment, James Herriot's (pen name for author Alf Wight) All Creatures Great and Small s'eries from PBS. I'd watched the original in the '80's and the remake is so, so good....I can't tell you how often I've watched the re-runs. It's total escapism.
I make no secret of the fact that, this would, from a farming perspective, and societally, be a life preferance.
If you watch this series, you'll find it robust with men and women in correct wear of that late '30's period of style. Call me a nerd on this one, but I'm a total enthusiast regarding those wool tweeds, flat caps, and fedoras. I love their style and grace of the period. d
