I love them. I own a few along with a bunch of accessories. Right now where I live it’s two degrees below zero outside not including the wind chill, and when wearing those coats that temperature or wind doesn’t bother me at all. Actually I get a lot of compliments on them, but love them or hate them for our winters I would never go back to wearing anything else.

Because some people still choose to wear them, just like some people still wear leather and eat meat. And it's not illegal. I find cloth just as warm, personally.
