End of the line I spose

Up til now, I’d never known any family history back further than the mid 1800s on my father’s side. In 15 minutes, I could trace my mom’s side back to England totally for free. LOL now I have to dig some more. I only made it to the mid 1500s. One assumes the records are sketchy when it starts saying the mother was 5 years old. I don’t think things were quite that different back then. 😂 it is neat to get back far enough where you start seeing the spelling variations from the lack of standardization though. Stuff is so cool. The last one I found was Nicholas Reede. From Nik to Nick! 😄
I have always feared that if I found my family tree, some of my ancestors would be hanging from it.

@Mamapolo2016 but not most! I’m not finding a ton about what they did yet, just the basics of the line and a few farmers or laborers. There’s a whole line of Brewers, so I reckon that’s a clue. 😂 My great grandfather was killed at 39 when his dynamite he was working with exploded too soon. That was 1925 so I saw the newspaper articles. Some of them talked about the mangled and dismembered body but got the number of children he left behind wrong…made me feel like not much has changed in the world.
@JustNik Yes. The more things change the more they stay the same.
That’s really amazing !
What I could find out was limited because of the times. The one cool thing about my father’s parents being older (his mother was 42 when he was born in 1932), was the real history he learned just from asking them. And as a child he met older relatives who had been born enslaved. Mom could trace family members back to the late 1700s.

@bijouxbroussard What a priceless window he had! ❤️❤️
@JustNik Both of my grandfathers served in WWI (my mother’s father had just turned 16 and lied about his age).

@bijouxbroussard I’ve read some about their experience as, honestly, I’m not sure I’d have been so willing to fight for a country that treated me that way. The integrity and dignity and hope and resilience one finds in their stories is just incredible. They fought two wars simultaneously.

I managed to get back to year 900, but I am very skeptical of a lot of it. I do feel good about what I have traced to the 1600's

@Lackwittyname that’s incredible! Amazing that you could even find a tentative line back that far. Do you come from kings??? 😂

What service are you using to find the info?
JustNik · 51-55, F
@iamnikki I just googled the name and came to a site called Family Search. There were more options though so I’ll look at more and try to corroborate what I can.
