Can I talk to my high school counselor about this?

I'm worried about my mental health, particularly that I show many symptoms for general anxiety at high levels. My mom will not allow me to see a therapist about this, despite my concerns. She acts as if my behavior is entirely my fault and that I can control my anxiety-like actions.
My counselor has drop-in hours available, the only way I can contact her without my mom receiving notice. My mom has said before "your counselor is not your therapist, she's there to discuss academics". Should I not go to my counselor about this, as well as my mom's attempts to isolate me socially? Thanks.

sure, why not. if nothing else your counselor can steer you in the right direction to someone who is useful.

I was just wondering if it would be a weird thing to discuss with a counselor, someone meant to guide you academically.
They are there to guide you academically, but in most cases they are also educated in child development, including behaviors and emotions that fall within the ‘norm’ for children. So! go talk to this person. If nothing else they can give you an idea if there is reason to see someone on a more professional level.
