I love how Naya can just have full on conversations with me & she understands things so well

I think it's partially because I always explain things & talk to her like a person. She always understands & responds. She's still 2 but I've never met a 2 year old who talks as much as she does. My family often says the same thing & they always speak so highly of her intelligence. I know that's not all thanks to me though. My parents say it's because we're good parents but I think Naya might naturally be smart as well because we hardly even try. We just talk to her & teach her things, & she just picks it up easily.

Her mom got surprised recently because when I was talking to Naya & she called me "dada" I laughed & said "you don't even call me that anymore." Naya replied, "yeah I call you daddy" so I told her "& I call you Naya" then she said, "no, call me baby" like she was getting sassy with me 😂 her mom was like "it's so cool how she actually understands you & has conversations with you like that"

Right now Naya got upset with me because she ran at the tv stand & hit the sound bar. It knocked over the sound bar & almost knocked down the TV too. It's a big ass 65" so it definitely would've hurt her. I quickly & sternly told her "Naya don't do that, be careful" & she got upset & was about to cry because of the tone in my voice. She walked out the room but immediately came back to stand in front of me looking sad. I asked her, "what's wrong? Why you sad?" She started mumbling, all I heard was "baby" but I told her "Naya it's okay. I told you don't do that because you almost knocked the TV down. If it falls on you it would hurt & I don't want you to get hurt. That scares me. I'm not mad at you, it's okay but you can't hit things like that"
Her frown turned into a smile right away & she just said "okay" & came & sat next to me.

It makes me happy that she understands so much. I mean I try to say things in ways she'll understand but I think maybe it helps her talk more & express herself better too. She's very calm, understanding, & talkative. I mean she already sings her whole ABC's & she's not even 3 yet 🤷 she's been able to identify letters for a year already. We play word games on her tablet & when I tell her how to spell something she types it out no problem. Now she's already starting to write manually too. I can't really explain it with words but anybody who meets her gets really impressed by her manners & how much she talks & knows 🥹 to the point that people are always bragging about my kid.. especially my stepmom or any women that meet her. I don't even have to brag over her myself but I low-key be so proud of my kid.

It's mostly body language at two. That doesn't mean she doesn't understand. Just how she understands is still mostly through your body language.

Notice your own body language and you might see how kids at that age understand things.

@ChiefJustWalks you are still thinking verbally. You'll have to notice body language more to really understand the transition from one to the other.

@DeWayfarer I'm not saying she doesn't understand body language because of course that's a big thing. I'm just saying that I don't think it's mostly body language in her case. I just told her something from a completely different room & she immediately did what I said & she couldn't even see me. Tone is a big factor as well. But yeah I'm just saying that my daughter knows what I'm saying even without body language... not that it isn't a big factor

@ChiefJustWalks she pays attention to you more though. And the reason is you give her the attention. Which in turns means she is quite familiar with your body language. That understanding is the bond. She fully understands your body language. She has more trouble with her mother because the attention isn't there, for what ever reason, for her to FULLY understand her mother's body language.

She is still in a transition stage. Especially especially with her mother.
