Sometimes letting my baby bird fly a bit is difficult.

But also it feels necessary now. I've been everything since he was born. I never really had help, just a lot of hard work and painful choices. So we're close. We give each other space too, but he knows I have his back.

When I push him now, it's to make him accountable. He has his struggles. I'm still trying to get help with his anxiety, but on my own, all I can do is push him to fly little by little. Harshness is wrong for him. So I have to be careful.

And when he does things on his own I get a little break. I feel like a real Mom who gets moments to herself. And he has to learn to get through things. My parents died young, I had to get through it. I have to make sure he's ready for life's ups and downs.

Our situation was very unique from the start. Parenting has been an incredible journey for me and I hope I've done a good job. A lot of fundamentals are missing for us. So I just hope that I did okay.

its not easy letting them go off on their own. you want to protect them from the world, but, deep down you know they need to make mistakes in life in order to learn important lessons. my youngest just turned 19. she is mature beyond her years, but, still, i want to help her fight the battles, when i know deep down she needs to fight them on her own.
