When raising kids what did/or do you hope to do differently than your own parents?

More freedom, and be interactive. Growing up with fairly stern parents that didn't really have much interaction with me. Well now in my own life. I'm the opposite. I can be childish with the kiddo lol and play some games on pc or ps4. Watch a movie, sometimes I think parents should drop the parent act once in a while and get mentally on their child's level and have some interaction. Brings a lot more closeness and makes the kid feel more of a friend who can tell you anything. Most kids are afraid to tell parents things these days especially if it's a problem they are having. And acting more of a friend to your kid than a parent can solve that. My experience anyway
