As A Parent, Would You Rather Know Your Child's Secrets or Would You Prefer Not To ?

Just looking to see what most parents think.

For example, your child might have a secret so painful to keep that your child will hurt themselves because of it, and they keep that secret to themselves because if it ever came out, they fear that you may never see them the same way again. Or, would you rather have your child tell you the truth about it and end up regretting it for the rest of their lives if you don't accept it ?

To sum it up basically, would you rather have your child suffer alone or would you rather have your child tell you things that will ruin your image of them ?

I am blessed ,my girls and I have talked about everything ,
but at the same time I am Dad .
We have a standing rule ,if I don't support them I don't tell them how to live their lives ,under my roof ,my rules
But even as teens we had a good relationship ,though like all teens tend to do ,
they would sneak off from time to time ,but they did not try to hide when they suspected they were pregnant.
They knew I would not be happy ,but they also knew I would be there for them ,
and I was .
And when I told them the Dads were going to turn out to be dead beats ,they set out to prove I was wrong ,but a man who was a first class jerk can spot one pretty Quick .,I was right ,and for a time I helped raise my grandkids .
Now my girls are 35,37,39 ,,and we are still very close and I have 4 of the greatest grandkids on the planet ,and now we are close too .
and I was a strict Dad ,but now they are glad I was ,and now they listen to Dad when He says ,,I don't think that is a good idea .
I also have 2 great son in laws ,sadly my youngest and my middle daughters had lost their mates to death ,one a car accident the other kidney failure .
but all are doing good now ,and my kids know ,my love really is unconditional ,
I would prefer to know

Question is.....(and this is how most parents feel btw !)

What on earth could be SO bad that you couldn't tell the people that love you the most ?

Most of us just want our children to be happy and healthy.
That's it !
No great expectations or revelations !

@MartinTheFirst: Well, even THEN i expect after all the revulsion/disgust/anger/anxiety/sadness/whatever, had died down.
They'd still want to try and help.
