I am really curious why

I have heard of stories over and over with how strict and rough parent's was in the 50s up to the 70s was. I mean today if a parent acted like that it would be considered as child abuse. But back then it was normal

Different time periods and cultures have different ways of doing things.

Go back 100 years ago and women in the US couldn't vote. A little further back they couldnt own property.

100 years ago leaving Mark's on a kid's backside wasn't considered bad parenting
