laying down the law is having mixed responses

me to 12 yr old boy: you’re grounded bc you think you can ignore me and come and go as you please and do whatever you want. Your skateboard is confiscated until you start listening to me. You’re spending the weekend catching up on homework and being with the family. Family meeting on sunday to discuss the new rules and schedule around here. Anything you want to bring up you need to write it down and ask me then

12 yr old, calm as can be: That sounds lame

Similar conversation with 13 yr old girl ended in tears, stomping around the house and slamming 3 doors in the space of 15 minutes. Oh and she’s never speaking to me again

16 yr old girl next ughhhhhhh

The youngest 2 are 9 and 7 so those convos should be less intense

My older brother arrives tonight to help handle the angry mob (aka the teenage girls)

How did THAT go and how was the family meeting today?

@SomeMichGuy they are all pretty unhappy about everything but i guess that was predictable. We had a really good day on Saturday at the beach and had fun without talking about rules and they got to know our brother a bit as the youngest ones dont remember him. The meeting was ok but 16 and 13 yr old were upset which got all the others worked up as well
@hannahJ Well, I guess that falls under "about as good as can be expected", right?

If you all survived, call it a win! lol
