laying down the law is having mixed responses

me to 12 yr old boy: you’re grounded bc you think you can ignore me and come and go as you please and do whatever you want. Your skateboard is confiscated until you start listening to me. You’re spending the weekend catching up on homework and being with the family. Family meeting on sunday to discuss the new rules and schedule around here. Anything you want to bring up you need to write it down and ask me then

12 yr old, calm as can be: That sounds lame

Similar conversation with 13 yr old girl ended in tears, stomping around the house and slamming 3 doors in the space of 15 minutes. Oh and she’s never speaking to me again

16 yr old girl next ughhhhhhh

The youngest 2 are 9 and 7 so those convos should be less intense

My older brother arrives tonight to help handle the angry mob (aka the teenage girls)

You have a 16 year old, but your age states you're 18-21. Are these children siblings?
hannahJ · F
@Richard65 yeah they’re my siblings
Richard65 · M
@hannahJ then, in their eyes, you're unlikely to carry the authority necessary to lay the law down in the house, which they have to abide by. I agree with your need to set some rules for them, but that's a parent's task. The parent should have that authority.

@Richard65 The whole post sounds fake to me. If what she said to you is true, chances are CPS would be stepping in to place them all her younger siblings into emergency foster care pending a hearing.

@hannahJ CPS does it on a daily basis, they put them into emergency care until your home has been thoroughly assessed.

@NativePortlander1970 we don’t live in the US. Doesn’t happen where we live. Not in my experience anyway

@hannahJ so is your nan in charge? All I can say is you’re in for a really rocky ride with that many younger siblings
@hannahJ By what I understand, it should happen more there.
hannahJ · F
@Jenny1234 no, she lets us live here but she’s not even slightly helpful in any way in looking after them
hannahJ · F
@NativePortlander1970 maybe, but officially there is no investigation of any abuse or neglect happening
