How do you handle unthankful kids or they are not supposed to be thankful to parents?

Was having this interesting discussion with other moms and all of them were sharing how unthankful kids have become these days who don't know the value of everything we do for them. Some newly become moms countered with saying, it's a duty of us as parents and kids don't need to be that thankful.

What you guys think?

I believe parents are responsible for instilling all values they wish to see in their kids. I remember my mother saying to me "what do we say?" when I did not respond with a thank you after receiving something nice. I saw it often in the movies as well where kids are asked "what do we say?" I believe that's one way of instilling it, the other way is through storytelling but I truly believe it is the responsibility of parents to teach such things.
