How old should a kid be before you tell the truth about Santa?

I think there should be a line to draw somewhere as I hear of kids getting to 7th grade still believing. At that point is a parent selfish in preserving the "innocence"?

I think 17 is a good age for that.

@Th1nkF1rst: no kidding - when kids start learning sex Ed and still believe in Santa in 7th grade, I think that's wrong.

@Th1nkF1rst: No they truly believed their own parents couldn't afford to buy them the kind of gifts they got on Christmas because they struggled to make ends meet much of the time . They really thought it's Santa.
