How come some parents give their children the silent treatment?

One time my dad gave me the silent treatment because I broke his trust by stealing his watch when I was 13. Man that hurt when my dad ignores me. My best friend convinced me to take it to prove to those older kids that we weren’t babies. It was wrong I know but we were stupid kids. I didn’t want to do it. I knew my bestie stole a CD but I didn’t wanna rat on her because she was my bestie. I was disappointed in her because she would always tell me to stop doing stupid things! Hurt. I lost his watch and I took the watch from the store but security caught me and we got arrested and sent to the back room. Man our parents were FURIOUS! My dad didn’t even talk to me on the way home. I did try to apologize but he refused to speak to me. He just gave me the silent treatment and it KILLED me! My family was disappointed. My bestie and I had to do community service by cleaning up the parks and places. We weren’t allowed to hang with each other for a month. Dads rule.
Why do some parents give kids the silent treatment? Do they not accept sorry well? My aunt was VERY hurt and disappointed and didn’t wanna even look at me.
That was about 4-5 years ago.
I guess loyal peoples do dumb things too. We’ve learned our lesson.

My dad pretty much gave me the silent treatment pretty much my whole life. I don't know some parents are like that but I do know how you feel.

@DaveStevenson Wow that’s sad
@AutismGirl18 Yeah. He left when I was a baby so that's why I said that.

@DaveStevenson I’m so deeply sorry. My mom left my dad and I when I was 8. She refuses to talk to me. I tried to reach out to her but she keeps rejecting me.
@AutismGirl18 That's the way my dad is.
