I don't have children.
But at my job, I see so many clients 'unable' to work, because they have a small child.
We can help pay for childcare temporarily, however, the parent has to pay after that is up. Many are not able to.

So they rely on/wait for government assistance.

I wish we had a daycare here.
I see some that truly want to work. I see others who just want handouts.

To have an easier cheapest life it’s good to stay home when kids are under 5. To do that you plan and have kids after you and husband buys a house on one salary and you have a lot of education to work minimal hours for maximum salary! But if you have to work, there are 6 to 6 programs in some cities for free for school age kids in the USA! And there are some grants and subsidized preschools for low income! But I like the German and Scandinavia model where there’s a lot of paid time off to take care of children, the same 6 months for Dads as for Moms!

@Carazaa lot of good stuff in there. Not sure how many people can buy a house on one income nowadays. Then you said get lots of education, then said get subsidized childcare? Guessing this scenario isn't for the same person lol.

And yes, paid maternity leave is not mandatory here

I think Everyone can get family leave for a few months in the USA but a baby needs a year with parents I think.
It is possible to buy a house on one salary if a couple plan carefully, save and work hard. Buying a house on 2 salaries is a great mistake because if someone loses a job or get a divorce they can lose the house! Even if they can buy an expensive house I suggest buy a cheap house so you don’t stress!
I know many who bought their house on one salary! I did! And my friends who did have it very nice no stress Moms take kids to all the piano lessons and soccer practices and go to prayer meetings, and volunteer and keeps the house nice. Dads work and come home to nice dinners and clean houses! It’s cheap ,no stress and ideal! Or Dad can stay home and Mom works! Being a single Mom is hardest than anything though! They need help from the community!
