Do you ever feel like you are failing as a parent?

It's tough being a single parent of an only child. It's tough working real hard to cope with a mental illness at the same time raising a young boy.
A boy who sadly alongside me has lived as a victim of emotional, psychological and financial abuse from his own father!
We have finally are free from this nasty piece of work!
The price I paid for our freedom was too high...it had to be done.

Now, every day it gets clearer on the damage...its like a pile of rubble so high...I need to sort thru...to finally start a life worth living.
It's not easy when my Son has shut down his emotions because his Dad hurt him deeply.
All he wants to do is stay in his room...
Can't reach him atm and it breaks my heart.

It’s sad to hear that and I can’t say I know what your going through except I’m a single parent of an only child that has had a hard road for her short life so far . I think she is strong and now seems to be doing better . Kids are strong and can ( in their own way) deal with a lot , it takes time but it can get better.
Sometimes the single parent tries really hard and can’t see how strong their children are because they are to busy trying to take care of everything that two parents are supposed to be doing. Then add the negative things the missing parent has knowingly or unknowingly left behind for the one to take care of. Sometimes you need to take a little break, step back , take a breath and look around before going again. Time helps most things if you let it work for you.
I do hope everything works out for you and your son.

@Repete Thank you. That's what I am hoping that will happen. I can't get him to come out of his room. He has developed a ps4 addiction on top of everything...

@wiltingflower my daughter withdrew then started writing lots of writing then got into her iPad ( that can be a little scary in a way) but she seems to be doing good. I still worry a lot about her but sometimes you have to let them do things their way .
A ps4 may be his way to deal for a little bit .

@Repete I understand exactly what you are saying. We both are in healing mode. I worry because he does spend a lot of time on it. I also know that he needs it right now.

I struggle because I get the finger pointed at me...and a shit load of crap from Family that I am ruining my Son. They have no idea what we have been thru. I can still hear their words..." Your turning him into a monster...its the ps4 that does this to him!"

Instead of accepting the fact that their Son destroyed our lives.

Yes that’s a hard one it seems like you can do a lot of good and one thing they may not agree with and all the attention goes to the one thing.and of coarse you are the bad guy always because they are always perfect.
I think you are doing a wonderful job and things will get better you just have to hang in there.@wiltingflower
